Bosch Washing Machine Error Codes.
Bosch washing machines are regarded as among the highest quality laundry appliances available on the market, known for being durable and tough, but no mechanical appliance no matter what make or model is exempt from becoming faulty.
If your Bosch washing machine wants you to know that all is not well it will display an error or fault code. These codes are not diagnostic – they don’t tell you exactly what is wrong with your machine, but are simply there to signal a blip in performance or a problem with a blockage, the loading and setting of the machine.
These codes can, though, be indicators of a deep-seated serious problem, so they should not be ignored.
You can probably troubleshoot and resolve some of the problems flagged up by error codes yourself – if you know how to read the codes and what they signify.
That’s why we’ve put together this Bosch washing machine error code guide, so you can fathom what the letters and numbers you are seeing on your machine’s display mean and take appropriate action.
We have listed only the common error codes seen on most current makes and models of Bosch washing machines – there are no doubt more depending on the specific model or age of your machine that you may need to resolve with professional help or by referring to your handbook. Some old Bosch machines do not have an LED display and will use a sequence of flashing lights on the front panel to indicate a fault.

The Meaning of Common Bosch Washing Machine Fault Codes
E16 / F16
When you see this code on your Bosch washing machine it relates to the door lock. Most probably it just means that you have failed to latch the door properly. It could also signify that the child lock has been activated, or a piece of the laundry has become snagged in the door. Turn off the machine, rectify these issues, and then try again – if the error still persists it means there is probably a fault with the door latch which will have to be repaired, so you’ll need to call in a repair technician from North West Appliance Solutions.
E17 / F17
This code indicates that the water supply time has been exceeded – in other words, your Bosch washer has been unable to take in any water in the time allotted to do so by its onboard control unit. Remedies you can try are to check that your machine’s inlet hose is properly attached and has no kinks, that the water supply is functioning, and that the machine’s water tap is turned on and providing adequate water pressure. If none of these actions solve the problem, then you’ll need a professional repairer to investigate the inlet valve.
E18 / F18
With this code displaying it more than likely means that your Bosch washing machine’s drainage hose is blocked, or kinked. The machine will remain full of water when the cycle would normally ensure it was draining out. If the drain hose seems clear then you probably have a faulty drain pump, which will need the attention of a repair technician.
E19 / F19 & E20 / F20
These codes relate to a heating system fault, and can only be rectified by a professional Bosch washing machine repair engineer, like those we have at North West Appliance Solutions. Our repairers can diagnose and deal with the problem which probably involves heating circuits, the heating element or the thermostat. Call us or book an appointment online.
E21 / F21
When you see this code on your Bosch washing machine it’s serious. It means the motor has failed, and the machine won’t run. You could try re-setting the machine by turning it off at the plug, then back on after a few minutes. More likely though it still won’t work, and you’ll need an expert to come and fix it. Don’t worry too much though, it is unlikely to be fatal. Usually, it is down to worn carbon brushes that are unable to complete the electrical circuit in the motor. Call us on 01925 377 977.
E23 / F23
Your Bosch washing machine is fitted with the Aquastop system, which is responsible for leakage protection. This error code shows when the Aquastop system is triggered to inform you that there is water in the base tray of the appliance due to a leak. You’re advised to immediately disconnect the machine from the mains electricity and water supply for safety’s sake, then call in a qualified professional repair engineer from North West Appliance Solutions.
E25 / F25
This code indicates that your washing machine’s turbidity sensor has failed. This is the device in your Bosch washer that monitors how much soap there is in the water, and the rinse cycle will persist until the water is clear. If it fails then the machine won’t know when to stop rinsing. This issue needs to be fixed by a professional.
E26 / F26
This code is related to the water levels in your Bosch washing machine. It generally means that the analogue pressure sensor is faulty, so the machine will stop working efficiently, unable to discern how much water there is in the machine as it runs through its cycle. You’ll need a professional engineer to repair it.
